Graceful Inner Island Spoon I | Sterling silver, tsavorite garnet, patina.

The Graceful Inner Islands reflect on our impermanence and the hidden beauty within. Porous fragments of hand-carved cancellous bone are transformed into precious metal according to the principles of wabi-sabi. Each piece is frozen in a moment of decay or emerging from nothingness.

Comprising jewellery and silverware, an initial collection of 35 pieces were displayed at Wonky in Melbourne's Tinning Street Presents Gallery on July 14-24, 2016.

Wonky was a group show curated by Sophia Cai and Caitlin Shearer inspired by the principles of wabi-sabi – a Japanese aesthetic that celebrates the imperfect and the transient. Taking this idea as a starting point, Wonky celebrated unpredictability and impermanence, both in art and in life.
